He personified a special time. Richard Mutrux was an extraordinary man. He planted the first seed that would become Gaslight Square. He purchased the Musical Arts building at Olive street and Boyle avenue in 1953, and opened the Gaslight Bar, which became a hangout and gathering place for beatniks and the intellectual crowd of St. Louis, mostly due to his influence at the time.
Later along with his brother Paul who played flamingo guitar, opened the renoun "Three Fountains" restaurant. |
