Jay Landesman, former editor of Neurotica Magazine (the first voice of the Beat Generation, circa 1948), is the considered anchor and architect of Gaslight Square. Established the renoun "Crystal Palace" in 1958. Credited for bringing acts such as The Smothers Brothers, Barbra Streisand, and Lenny Bruce to St. Louis. |

Fran Landesman, wife of Jay Landesman, songwriter and poet, is considered the cultural influence of Gaslight Square . Co-authored songs for the Broadway play "The Nervous Set" and the hit ballad "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most", with Tommy Wolf. The couple moved to London in 1964. |
